How to Save Money with Better Fuel Economy

You can achieve better fuel economy easily without changing your car. You can save money no matter whether you have a gas guzzling 4×4 or a sports car, or a diesel city car, or a fleet of trucks. Below is what you should do.

1. Check the air pressure in the tyres. Having incorrect tyre pressure can add extra air resistance, so means the vehicle uses more fuel. Also, check the tyre condition, and make sure that they have enough grips and are road legal.

2. Check the levels of all fluids and, and make sure that they are within the manufacturer’s recommended levels. Having low oil or water can mean that the vehicle does not perform well.

3. Keep your vehicle well maintained so that it is in a roadworthy condition. In addition to being more economical, it will be less likely to break down and cost you more in the long term.

4. By taking all unnecessary things out of the vehicle, such as kids’ toys, spare clothing, CDs, and picnic equipment, you will reduce the weight of the vehicle, and so it will use less fuel. In addition, by removing the roof rack or bike carrier you will reduce the weight and improve the aerodynamics of the vehicle.

5. If you do not have to, do not have the windows open or use the air con too long. Opening the windows creates drag, and slows the car down, and so you need to use more fuel to maintain the same speed. Using the air conditioning uses fuel too, and will decrease your MPG by around 10%.

6. By driving defensively you can save fuel. By not having to race away from people at the traffic lights, or overtake everyone in sight, you will be a safer driver, and in all honesty, you probably will not get to your destination any slower.

7. If you can predict the road and the conditions, you can save time and fuel. There is no point speeding up, just as the lights change to red, or having to slow down quickly because you did not notice a corner, or somebody crossing the road.

8. By planning your route in advance you can save time as well as fuel. If you are traveling at busy times, such as in the rush hour, or in the holiday season, the shortest route might not be the quickest, duet o traffic jams, stop, and start traffic.

9. For very short journeys, it is much more economical, and better for the environment to walk or take public transport. Why not get the kids used to walking to school, instead of letting them rely on a lift

10. Consider using fuel additives for a better performance and fuel economy. These can help to improve power, and thanks to the corrosion inhibitors in them, can make your engine last longer, as well as reduce running costs. Can you afford not to use them?

Now you know how to save money, and get more miles to the gallon, is not it time that you improved your fuel economy.
