Jean-Claude Juncker, the commission’s president, has said he wants Tibor Navracsics, the Hungarian nominee for European commissioner, to be commissioner for culture, education, youth and sport.
Juncker told a plenary session on the European Parliament on Wednesday that Navracsics’s portfolio had been modified to a small extent: whereas the areas of culture, education, youth for which he was originally nominated remain, responsibility for the area of EU citizenship would go to the Greek commissioner. Navracsics in turn will also be responsible for sports affairs, Juncker added.
Juncker said that Navracsics had performed “excellently” at his hearing, demonstrating “a strong commitment to Europe,” making the Hungarian capable of carrying out the duties of a European commissioner.
